Chaarmz Magazine: Harsh, it’s great to have you on the cover for this special launch. Can you tell us a bit about your latest venture and the motivation behind this feature?
Harsh: Thank you for having me. We’re launching a new product called Mutual Fund Trust (MFT), which is essentially a vehicle for people to invest in real estate projects. The name of our MFT is PRG - MFT (Peak Returns Growth Mutual Fund Trust). Many people might not know me personally, so this feature is a way to introduce myself to the market of Real Estate investing and connect with potential investors. The idea came up during a conversation with Kal, who suggested a cover launch to break the ice and help people understand who’s behind the PRG Mutual Fund Trust.
Chaarmz Magazine: That makes sense. Can you give us some background on your career and what led you to this point?
Harsh: Sure. I am a successful real estate developer, builder, and brokerage owner. Before that, I had a career in IT. I started my own IT company, which was very successful and laid the foundation for my ventures into real estate. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, which has been the fabric of my existence. From building an IT company to developing real estate projects, it’s all been about innovation, growth and delivery.
Chaarmz Magazine: That’s impressive. Can you share a bit more about your personal journey?
Harsh: I came to Canada when I was 15, with absolutely nothing in my pocket. I worked day and night in a furniture factory and grocery store to save money for college and university. After graduating, I became a computer engineer and worked for a company for 13 years, transforming it into a leading IT company. Eventually, in 2006 I started my own IT firm called NanoTek Consulting Corp which I actively managed #for 10 years. It has been a very successful business and laid the foundation for all of my subsequent ventures including real estate. This entrepreneurial spirit is a big part of who I am.
Chaarmz Magazine: Wow, that’s inspiring. Can you tell us about some of the challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Harsh: One of the biggest challenges was in 2021 when our company was hit by a ransomware attack. They crypto-locked most of our client’s data. It was a major setback, but through perseverance and negotiation, and with the help of our legal team we managed to recover all the data. It was a tough time, but it showed our commitment to our clients and our ability to deliver even under pressure.
Chaarmz Magazine: That’s a remarkable story of resilience. Can you talk about some of your successes in real estate?
Harsh: Sure. In 2015, we had people invest in a land banking project. By 2021, we sold the project and delivered a 2600% return to our investors. For example, a project we bought for $15.8 million was sold for $165 million, making the largest land transaction to date in the history of the town of Milton. This kind of success is what drives us to bring the PRG Mutual Fund Trust to the market. It allows everyday investors to participate in these high-return projects, even if they don’t have millions to invest upfront.
Chaarmz Magazine: That’s incredible. Can you explain a bit more about the PRG Mutual Fund Trust and its benefits?
Harsh: The PRG Mutual Fund Trust is registered and governed by the Ontario Securities Commission, ensuring it’s safeguarded by Canadian security laws. It enables ordinary investors to invest in our real estate projects through their registered funds, like RRSPs, even if they don’t have liquid cash on hand. This way, they can benefit from our expertise and the high returns we’ve consistently delivered.
A Mutual Fund Trust (MFT) is a type of Canadian investment portfolio that is popular in Canada due to favorable taxation laws. It is a type of unit trust that must also comply with section 132 of the Canadian Income Tax Regulation Act 4801. The members of a mutual fund trust are called unitholders. MFTs are one of the most tax-efficient structures available, benefiting the investor and the owner. Registered investors benefit by earning tax-free or tax-deferred profits. Cash investors benefit from profits, such as lower-taxed capital gains, flowing through all entities back to the investor.
Chaarmz Magazine: Thank you for sharing that. It’s clear you have a passion for what you do. Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?
Harsh: I think it’s important to highlight that my journey has been one of continuous growth and innovation. From starting with nothing to building successful businesses, it’s all been about trust, reliability, and deliverability. We’re excited about the future and the opportunities that the
PRG - MFT will bring to our investors.
